Quiet Night In

10:30pm, I close the book,
Get up with a groan,
Grab my water bottle,
Shuffle across to my desk,
Nudge the keyboard forward,
Bohren doom jazz plays,
I notice my water silently
Showering the side of my PC tower
I swear, grab my beanie and
Wipe the excess away,
I pull out a towel and dry,
Disaster avoided,
The tower spared.

My head aches, it has for days,
I sit with my head in my hands,
10:51, my mind is busy,
Anxiety,
My jaw aches,
I’ve been lost in my head
For 31 days now,
Digging, writing, creating
I’m tired
But sleep comes poorly.
Irritation grows,
I toss the book
Back onto the armchair,
Smell you tomorrow
Bukowski.
